About - Commitment to Change Counselling
About
I care deeply about who you are
—your story, your strengths, and your struggles. When you meet with me, you will leave the session feeling heard, seen, and valued. I believe that the most powerful catalyst for change is the relationship between counsellor and client. That's why I work collaboratively, offering a space built on trust, respect, and unconditional acceptance.
As human beings, we are always evolving—physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually. However, life can challenge us in unexpected ways. Trauma, loss, or major life transitions can limit our natural capacity for growth and renewal.
As a mental health counsellor, I believe that change is possible. My role is to create a warm, emotionally safe, and compassionate space— a “holding space”—where you can explore your experiences, try new ways of being, and reconnect with your inner strength and values.
My Counselling Approach
To best support each client’s unique journey, I use an integrative approach that draws from several evidence-based models. My work is:
- Emotionally focused
- Trauma-informed
- Strengths-based
- Person-centred
- Existential
- Solution-focused
I also incorporate mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapies, including:
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Advanced Training
In addition, I am trained in:
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Gottman Method Couples Counselling
- Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey as you define—on your own terms—what change, personal meaning, and life satisfaction truly mean to you.
Remember… change is possible.

CORALEE THOMAS
Master of Counselling | Master of Education | Registered Clinical Counsellor | Certified Canadian Counsellor | Trauma-Informed | Culturally Sensitive | Relationship-FocusedI’m a Jamaican-born mental health counsellor serving in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Before moving to Canada, I worked as a high school counsellor for nine years and as an adjunct lecturer at several postsecondary institutions in Jamaica. Those experiences were foundational in creating a lifelong commitment of supporting individuals experiencing personal challenges through meaningful, compassionate connection.
I hold a Diploma in Teaching and a Bachelor of Science in Guidance and Counselling from the Mico University College in Kingston, Jamaica, a Master of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and a Master of Counselling degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, USA.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Indigenous children and families across Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. I also worked as part of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, dieticians, and exercise specialists with the Edmonton North Primary Care Network. I also worked as a counsellor at the University of British Columbia, where I supported students experiencing a range of personal, social, relational, developmental and educational challenges.
As a counsellor, I work from an attachment-based perspective, creating an emotionally safe, open, nonjudgmental, and engaged alliance with all clients. I believe that with the right support, every client is capable of creating the change, healing, hope, and relationships they long for.
In my years of service, I’ve seen profound transformation in the lives of individuals and couples dealing with:
- Childhood attachment trauma
- Burnout and work-related stress
- Depression and anxiety
- ADHD, bipolar disorder, and BPD
- PTSD and complex trauma
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions and existential questions
- Relationship struggles and addictions
- Relationship Counselling
- Counselling for Newcomers, International Students & Immigrant Populations
- Career & Work-Related Counselling
Being raised in a culture that values deep interpersonal connection, I am passionate about building strong, trusting therapeutic relationships. I work virtually with adolescents (16+), adults, couples, families, and individuals who have experienced discrimination or marginalization due to the intersection of their race, social class, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, age, or physical ability.
I also have a special interest in supporting older adults as they reflect on and make meaning of their life.
At Commitment to Change Counselling, I truly believe that counselling therapy works, and my primary goal is to help all clients find deeper purpose and meaning in their lives—so they can begin to feel, think, and become the truly valuable, competent, and worthy individuals they are meant to be.
Remember—Change is Possible.
